  2. School Description
Horton Education and Care caters for children and young people with Special Educational Needs associated with any of the following Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe and/or Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD), Social and/or Emotional Difficulties and Challenging Behaviour (SEDB). We offer 52 and 38 week residential placements and a number of day placements for children & young people ages 8-20 years.

Located on the east coast Horton House School and Children’s Home is situated on four sites, in the city of Hull and East Riding villages. The school has close access to coastal resorts, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.

At Horton Education and Care we provide a family environment within each of our schools and homes. Our staff focus on building positive relationships, as this is recognized as an essential factor in getting the most out of our pupils, within our niche environment.

Our ultimate aim is to promote ‘total education’ whereby education & care combine to help children and young people achieve, manage their own behaviour, and secure for themselves a brighter future. Ofsted reported on our success in ‘providing an environment where pupils who have moderate to severe learning or behavioural difficulties can flourish. As a result of good curricular provision and teaching, pupils make good progress, improve their behaviour and develop more positive attitudes to learning.’

The curriculum is broad and balanced and is carefully designed to meet the individual needs and reflect the interests of our young people who have a wide range of complex needs. The requirements of the national curriculum are met through a range of innovative approaches aimed at raising attainment.
